      Vize-Weltmeisterin: 1995
      Europameisterin: 1989, 1991, 1995

The 111-times capped international is the most successful figure in German women's football. As a player, until 1996, then as assistant coach to Tina Theune and, from 2005 to 2016, as head coach, she had a hand in every national team success from their first title at the 1989 European Championship. She also featured in the first ever game played by the women's national team against Switzerland in November 1982, coming on as an 18-year-old substitute and immediately contributing two goals.

From then on, she excelled in the role of technically gifted and hugely prolific midfielder. Against Iceland on 6 September 1987, Neid became the first Germany player to score three goals in a game. She held the record for the most international appearances until 1998. Neid set more impressive records by winning the league title seven times and the DFB Cup on six occasions. The successful era of TSV Siegen remains inseparably linked with her name. In her time as a player, Neid was a superstar of the women's game, which enjoyed a rapid rise in popularity, not least thanks to her class and charisma. Neid was also inducted into Mexico's Football Hall of Fame in 2018 in recognition of her extraordinary service to women's football.
