With 174 caps, Ariane Hingst has the third-highest number of appearances for the women’s national football team, behind Birgit Prinz and Kerstin Stegemann. The West Berlin-born player made her debut for the team at the age of just 17. In just her third international match, the defender also demonstrated her attacking talent, scoring two goals against the Iceland national team.

From that point onwards, she became an indispensable part of the elite women’s football scene and went on to achieve one success after another:  Four European Championship and two World Cup titles form the cornerstones of her successful career. At the 2007 World Cup in China, Hingst was selected for the tournament’s All-Star Team. Her three appearances at the Olympic Games each ended with a bronze medal.  After 15 years with the women’s national team, she retired following the 2011 World Cup on home soil.
        In
club football, Ariane Hingst is one of Turbine Potsdam’s icons. She remained loyal to the club for ten years, even though at the start of her career she was initially reluctant to leave her West Berlin home. But it was to prove worthwhile. With Turbine, she won the league title twice, the DFB Cup three times, and achieved her greatest international success in 2005 by winning the UEFA Women’s Cup. After moving to 1. FFC Frankfurt in 2009, she won the DFB Cup for the fourth time two years later.
Upon retiring from her playing career, the qualified bank clerk moved into coaching.  For some time now, she has also been contributing to broadcasts of major tournaments as a TV pundit, drawing on her many years of experience and outstanding expertise.

        Hall of Fame

The German Football Hall of Fame was established on the initiative of the German Football Museum. In November 2018 and January 2019, leading sports journalists voted to select the inaugural men’s and women’s teams. The jury members were asked to nominate their choice of players and managers from German men’s and women’s football. Players who were eligible to play for German national teams and whose playing careers had ended at least five years previously were eligible for nomination. The HALL OF FAME honours the greatest legends of German football in one central location for the first time. It forms part of the permanent exhibition at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. Opened on 1 April 2019, it has become a permanent place of pilgrimage for all football fans. The jury decides annually on further inductees from men’s and women’s football.
