And suddenly you can hear the sound of pattering rain. Eleven heroes stand in a line. Shortly afterwards, the German national anthem begins to play softly… That’s how it must have been back then, on 4 July 1954, shortly before kick-off of the World Cup final between Hungary and Germany at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern.
In the exhibition installation centred on the “Miracle of Bern”, you’ll hear the “Fritz-Walter weather” and feel the tension before the match. The original final match ball lies in the centre of the room, as if ready for the kick-off.
You’ll no doubt know how the final ultimately ended. And who scored the decisive goal, too. Nevertheless, the moments surrounding the German national team’s first major title win never fail to give you goosebumps. You’ll feel it.
