Memorable moments for the national team

The German national team’s first moment of glory came on 4 July 1954 in Switzerland. The ‘Heroes of Bern’ welcome you at the start of the exhibition as life-size figures and show you the way to further magical moments. Not all of these were crowned with titles.
At the 1966 World Cup, Geoffrey Hurst’s famous ‘Wembley goal’ prevented the next triumph. You can view the goal from different angles. Was the ball in or not?
The goal of the century was followed by the match of the century in the semi-final against Italy at the 1970 World Cup. We show images of the dramatic extra time, in which five goals were scored.
Thanks to Gerd Müller’s 2–1 winning goal against the Netherlands, the national team returned to the World Cup throne in 1974. The shirt of Germany’s all-time leading goalscorer has a place of honour here.
Looking out over the model of the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, you can relive the highlights of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. One of the exhibition’s most spectacular displays brings to life memories of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil – Germany’s most recent title to date. That, too, was a truly memorable moment!
