        European champion: 1989, 1991, 1995

The player, who has made 111 appearances for her country, is the most successful figure in German women’s football. As a player until 1996, then as assistant coach to Tina Theune, and from 2005 to 2016 as national team manager, she played a direct part in all the national team’s successes since their first title win at the 1989 European Championship. As an 18-year-old substitute, she also featured in the women’s national team’s inaugural match against Switzerland in November 1982, scoring two goals straight away.

From then on, she excelled as a technically gifted and extremely prolific midfielder. In the match against Iceland on 6 September 1987, she became the first international player ever to score three goals in a single match. She held the record for the most international caps until 1998. With seven league titles and six DFB Cup victories, Neid set further impressive records. The glory days of TSV Siegen are closely linked to her name. During her playing career, Silvia Neid was regarded as a superstar of women’s football, a sport that gained enormous popularity not least thanks to her outstanding skill and charisma. Incidentally, in 2018, Silvia Neid was also inducted into Mexico’s ‘Football Hall of Fame’ in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to women’s football.

        Hall of Fame

The German Football Hall of Fame was established on the initiative of the German Football Museum. In November 2018 and January 2019, leading sports journalists voted to select the inaugural men’s and women’s teams. The jury members were asked to nominate their choice of players and managers from German men’s and women’s football. Players who were eligible to play for German national teams and whose playing careers had ended at least five years previously were eligible for nomination. The HALL OF FAME honours the greatest legends of German football in one central location for the first time. It forms part of the permanent exhibition at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. Opened on 1 April 2019, it has become a permanent place of pilgrimage for all football fans. The jury decides annually on further inductees from men’s and women’s football.
